Rainwater Harvesting
The Serajuddin and Co Pvt Ltd mine in Odisha has studied the topography and counter of the mine and designed the surface runoff management based on the annual rainfall data. Accordingly, the rainwater harvesting structures are designed at low elevated areas for efficient collection of the mine’s runoff water. Based on the specified designs, different capacities of settling ponds are constructed to meet the surface of the mine runoff management. Therefore, project-specific, 360000 CUM capacity settling rainwater harvesting ponds are constructed inside the lease area for the collection of rainwater and to recharge the groundwater through a groundwater recharge mechanism. It not only facilitates the conservation of rainwater but also the increase in the groundwater level through a continuous recharge process. The groundwater level is also monitored with the help of piezometers to ascertain the efficacy of the recharge measures. The technical study for rainwater harvesting has been done by top institutes like IIT, NIT, ISM, CIMFR etc. for implementation and support services.
Water Quality Management
We ensure zero discharge from mine runoff. With the help of technical studies from leading institutes, settling ponds at strategic locations were developed. Guard walls (including a gabion box), check dams, and plantation protection measures were constructed near water bodies. We analyze the surface runoff discharge quality to confirm prescribed norms and reuse and recycle water.
Sewage Treatment Plant
All the residential colonies and camps are installed with different capacities of anaerobic STPs for the treatment of domestic wastewater. The STPs are equipped with a Preliminary treatment system, Biological treatment (MBBR), Activated Carbon Filter (ACF) and Multi-Media Filter (MMF) for the treatment of domestic waste. Further, the water is also treated with chlorine dosing which acts as a disinfection agent. Finally, the treated water is collected in a collection tank and used for dust supersession, plantation and gardening purposes.
Effluent Treatment Plant:
Hazardous waste (used oil, oil-contaminated cotton waste, filters, containers etc.) from the mining operation is collected and stored properly under a leakproof shed, and disposed of according to guidelines. We have installed an inline line oil centrifuging system and conduct periodic centrifuging of hydraulic oil to monitor the deterioration in oil quality, separation of dirt and moisture etc. For the treatment of industrial effluents, an ETP with Electro-Mechanical process technology has been introduced.
We ensure the following management practices:
