Polavarum Project - India’s largest multipurpose irrigation project is one of the very fast paced projects of the country. Under the leadership of the very dynamic Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, this project has seen a very steady progress. Recently in a spine-tingling & horrific incident, a ferry boat carrying 44 tribal passengers toppled in the Godavari. This incident resulted in taking away the lives of 12 passengers who couldn’t make it out of the water in time getting pulled in by the boat. However, there were few lives saved by the very efficient people of Thriveni. Thriveni is an MDO company who is also a sub-contractor in the Polavarum project. The emergency rescue unit of Thriveni was the first to reach the site when the divers immediately took a hold of the situation and managed to save 10 lives. They immediately set up a camp with local their in-house doctor to treat the wounded. Soon help came. Right from Navy to coast guard to irrigation department officials rushed to the scene along with CM Mr. Chandrababu Naidu. It’s hard to see Such swift action these days but not in case of Andhra Pradesh though. Chief Minister himself led the operations being physically present there. Mr. Naidu stayed for over 5 hours and announced 10 lacs compensation to every family along with an immediate disbursement of 1 lacs for completing the last rituals to the families who lost someone. The rescue operations continued for over 2 days but sadly few bodies are yet to be recovered. Many lives were lost due to the carelessness of the ferry operators. In spite of warnings for strong Gayle the ferry operator operated with the over loaded vessel. CM strictly condemned the ferry operators and demanded strict actions against the local operators. He also added that a regular check will be conducted so that proper safety measures are available on every boat. This was really an unfortunate situation but the swift effort made by Thriveni is really commendable. Had it not been Thriveni to act, more lives were bound to be lost.
