Overview
Lloyds Metals and Energy Ltd (LMEL) was awarded the Surjagarh Iron Ore Mine lease (SIOM) in 2007, valid up to 2057. Thriveni was appointed as the MDO in 2021 for the life of mine in order to fulfill the task of developing it into a world-class mine. The mining activity commenced in Surjagarh mines in May 2021, and achieved an impressive 3 Mtpa annual capacity.
Highlights
LMEL has an extraordinary vision to reach 25 Mtpa in the coming years. SIOM is a green field mining project in a difficult terrain with community challenges mitigated by best-in-class community management. Various initiatives, including an industrial security academy, driver training institute, medical facilities etc. have been implemented to generate opportunities for the local community, thus integrating them with mining and economic activities. It has ambitious plans of running its own green steel plant, 8 Mtpa pellet plant and 8 Mtpa slurry pipeline in the district of Gadchiroli. LMEL has provided over 2000 direct employment contracts with equal opportunities for women and is an ISO – 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 9001:2008 certified company.
