Overview

The Raikela Iron Ore Mines are spread over an area of 67.586 Ha. The Steel & Mines Department, Govt. of Odisha granted the mining lease in favour of Geetarani Mohanty for iron ore mining near the village Raikela, under the Bonai Subdivision in the Sundergarh District. The lease deed was executed on 02/07/1991 for a period of 20 years, up to 01/07/2011. Subsequently, the lease period was extended up to 01/07/2041.

Highlights

The mine EC capacity has been increased from 2.99 Mtpa to 4.99 Mtpa in 2022. The non-forest land spans an area of 66.671 Ha of the total lease area which is over 67.586 Ha. The remaining 0.915 Ha remains non-forest land. Raikela Iron Ore Mine has a top mRL of 825 and bottom mRL of 630, representing a difference of 195 m, a figure which poses significant operational challenges.
