Electrification of Large Excavators
What we do > Cutting Carbon > Electrification of large excavators
We deployed a diesel HEMM excavator, the EX 2500 converted to an electric drive, the very first of its kind in India, as a test case. Our in-house technology and innovation team successfully carried out the conversion for the 900 kW machine and received a commendation from Hitachi, the OEM. The parts for conversion and process were designed and manufactured in India, a true ‘Make in India’ exercise. We have indigenously developed technology to convert ultra-heavy loaders and dump trucks to be retrofitted to run electrically and/or on dual fuel using LNG thereby reducing the carbon footprint by burning less diesel.
Key Benefits
- Enormous reduction of diesel consumption
- Huge reduction in emissions
- Reduced downtime due to lower maintenance requirements
- Higher availability due to zero time required for refuelling or service
Environmental Impact
- 3600 litres of diesel saved per hour
- 72,520 tonnes of CO2 potentially saved yearly by a fleet of 22 machines being converted into electrical machines.
