Overview

Pakri Barwadih Coal Mines is one of the biggest captive coal blocks allotted to NTPC Government of India with an Extractable Reserve of around 642 Million tons (MT).
The contract was awarded to Thriveni Sainik Mining Private Limited, a joint venture between Thriveni and Sainik Mining.

Highlights

The biggest challenge of Pakri Barwadih was Maoist insurgency, which had rendered all mining activity pointless, for a period of ten years.

However, Thriveni was able to begin operations within six months of having been awarded the project, using a complex array of negotiation and pacification tools.

A high capacity of 18 MTPA was achieved using customised assets developed at our HEMM Rebuild and Maintenance Centre. An 11.4km conveyor was built to transfer coal from the extraction site to the collection site.

As part of our women empowerment agenda, we trained a team of ten women to operate a 100-ton dumper truck at the site and set up a garment manufacturing unit at Guruchatti, Barkagaon. Currently, a stellar batch of 52 women are employed, rendering them self-reliant and financially independent.
