Tyre retreading

What we do > Cutting Carbon > Tyre retreading
Challenge
To overcome several challenges in managing the fleet of heavy machinery tyres. The high cost of new tyres, coupled with the environmental impact of tyre manufacturing, posed significant hurdles. Additionally, the wear and tear of tyres resulted in frequent replacements, further adding to the expenses. There was a need for a cost-effective and sustainable solution to address these challenges while maintaining operational efficiency.
Solution
In 2019, Thriveni became a shareholder in CIO Tyres, India’s first and largest tyre re-threader, located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. This collaboration allowed Thriveni to leverage CIO Tyres’ expertise in tyre retreading, a process that extends the lifespan of tyres by renewing their treads. By retreading around 3000 tyres annually, Thriveni significantly reduced the need for purchasing new tyres, thereby lowering costs and minimizing the environmental impact associated with tyre production. CIO Tyres specialized in retreading Off the Road (OTR) tyres, catering to a wide range of tyre sizes, from scooter tyres to the largest Earthmover tyres used in mining operations. Tyre retreading costs only 25-30% of the cost of a new tyre, making it a highly cost-effective solution for fleet management. The retreaded tyres exhibited a lifespan of 60-80% of that of a new tyre, depending on the operating environment, providing Thriveni with durable and reliable tyres for heavy machinery.
Benefits
Enhanced durability and performance: Through tyre rethreading, Thriveni experienced improved durability and performance of its fleet tyres. The retreaded tyres proved to be highly reliable, withstanding the rigorous demands of mining operations. This, in turn, increased the overall efficiency of Thriveni’s operations, minimizing the downtime caused by tyre replacements .Cost-Effectiveness: By adopting tyre rethreading, Thriveni achieved substantial cost savings. The reduced tyre expenditure positively impacted Thriveni’s financial performance, contributing to improved profitability. Environmental sustainability: By opting for tyre rethreading, the company significantly reduced its carbon footprint. The retreading process saved approximately 2467 tons of CO2 emissions per annum, considering the retreading of 360 tyres across 60 pieces of equipment.
