Thriveni Earthmovers, a world class mine developer and operator is one of the pioneers in innovative mining practices. Since its inception in 1991 it has been instrumental in various technological innovations in the mining and heavy earthmoving equipment industry.
Its latest innovation is refurbishing and remaking of a 41 year electric excavator, P&H Electric Shovel 2100 BL. Not only they are a first generation mining company having core expertise in mining minerals but also they have established a world class workshop in the industrial hub of Jamshedpur for refurbishing used heavy earth moving machinery (HEMM). It is one of their unique selling propositions that make them stand out in the mining industry. They are the biggest heavy equipment holder and has the in-house capability of more than 500 heavy earthmoving equipment that includes Liebherr R 996B, P&H Electric Shovel 2100 BL, Hitachi EX 2500,Komatsu PC 2000, Tata Hitachi EX 870, Euclid EH 4500, Letourneau 2350, Caterpillar 777D, Dozer CAT D11 R etc.
The 41 yrs old P&H Electric Rope Shovel was procured from Kudremukh Iron Ore Company (KIOCL, Bangalore) way back in 2014 in a very damaged and worn out condition. Thriveni Earthmovers took up the challenging job of remaking & refurbishing the machinery and bringing it back to workable condition. With the help of the never say die team, latest technology & world class maintenance facility Thriveni was successful in refurbishing the machinery within a very short period of time. This led to a huge operating cost saving which would have otherwise incurred if new machinery was purchased. Not only the electric rope shovel was made new and operational but also it was shipped to Mangampet Baryte mines at Andra Pradesh from Thriveni's world Class Workshop in Jamshedpur which is more than 1300 kms away.
Shovel Assembling from Scrap. The weight of the machine is 520 tons and it’s so huge that it took 15 days to dismantle with a workforce of 10 people. 16 Trailers were used for shipping the machinery and it took 20 days to assemble the machinery. P&H Electric Shovel is powered and controlled electrically and adopts DC drive systems. All the working functions of the excavator are driven by electrical motors connected to the mechanical transmission which are used to drive the various motions of the machine. Its generator works with 750 hp and it requires 6600KB volts to run the machine. In the mining Industry two types for excavators are used, one is that works with electricity and the other hydraulic excavator that runs on fuel. The most important functioning of shovel is used for digging and smooth loading of fragmented rock and also for mineral extraction. Such a herculean tasks done by team Thriveni. The age of the Electric Shovel was already 41 years old and making it function once again and putting it into operations is indeed a result of innovation and hard work of the team at Thriveni. Thriveni has developed many such in-house innovations and this one of the bright examples of the being a world class mine developer and operator. They have built a strong technological base for maintenance of HEMM, created state-of-the-art infrastructure, computerized maintenance management system, spare parts management system, and workshop support to maintain highly sophisticated and capital intensive HEMM. Today Thriveni has an annual loading capacity of 160 million cum. Dismantling of the Machinery Loading into Trailers Assembling of the Machinery
